To create an intelligent interest in Aviation the Corps provides detailed training courses and practical aviation experience is offered to all Cadets and Leaders of the Corps. Aviation Training is an integral part of the Challenge Award and so offers many levels of training achievement.
For Cadets aged 11 – a beginner’s course, comprising basic study with practical experiments.
For Cadets aged 13 plus – overall introduction into the 5 aviation subjects;
Air Traffic Control, Meteorology, Engines, Theory of Flight and Navigation
For Cadets aged 14 plus - detailed training of individual subjects; Air Traffic Control & Radio, Meteorology, Navigation, Propulsion & Theory of Flight. A coloured felt disc worn behind the Air Ability Badge denotes each section passed. Completion of all 5 subjects and a practical navigation test earns the Air Proficiency Badge.
Individual study specialising in a single subject, the following subjects are available..
• Aeronautical Engineering (Engines)
Air Experience Flights
All Cadets and Leaders of the Corps who are members of the Flying Club have the opportunity to take air experience flights. This is of great benefit to Cadets who have interests in a future aviation based career.
Units and Regions can arrange gliding through their local gliding clubs.
