Overseas Travel - Nijmegen Marches
Nijmegen 2010 are you up to the challenge !!!!
A football tournament and better fitness laid the foundations for the Nijmegen International Marches, the first marches being held in 1909. Since then it has grown into a prestigious 4-day International Annual Event for all ages, both civilian and military
Each year since the 1960’s the Corps has entered a Senior team in the Marches, which consist of marching 100 miles over 4 days. In 2005 for the first time the Corps entered a team, which marched for 72 miles over the 4 days..
Which march you do depends on your age, anyone aged between 14 and 15 years of age can take part in the 72 mile march and 16 and over in the year of the march has to take part in the 100 mile march.
Selection for the team is keen, so you need to ensure that you are fit/energetic and have good feet. Your need to be confident in your own abilities, as this is a real challenge. Application forms are available in January, and a training weekend is usually held in February. Anyone wanting to go to Nijmegen must also take part in the 2-day event held at RAF Cosford, usually in April each year.
If you are interested in taking part in the Nijmegen Marches in 2010 please contact HQ. The Nijmegen Marches Web site can tell you more about the training, routes and medals at www.4daagse.nl.
